The video discussed a practical solution for animal cruelty especially dogs cruelty. Throughout her career, she claimed that she and her team have rescued many abandoned street dogs. The first solution to alleviate the animal cruelty case is to spread awareness because awareness is the key. And then start to make a change even a little change because every single effort that we put into it is worth it.
  2. What is the speaker’s main purpose? Explain your answer.
The speaker intends to create peaceful coexistence between humans and animals. And this information helped me expand my ideas to develop this project.

Video Title: What If We Stopped Animal Testing? (week 5 video)

Date: 2 December 2022

  1. What is being discussed in the video? Explain your answer.
The topic being discussed in the video is the dark side of animal testing and what will happen if humans stop doing animal testing. Based on the data from the video, more than 115 million animals are used for testing products every year. Animals are commonly used as a subject in experiments because they are biologically similar to us. To completely stop animal testing, there are two alternatives. First, scientists may use algorithms in the computer, but it is not good enough. So, for the next experiments, scientists and researchers would use other testing methods, for example on cultured human cells. The other alternative is by volunteering humans to take microdoses of a new drug. But those two alternatives can’t replace animal testing. So, the video emphasizes that if we stopped animal testing, we’d need to advance in vitro technology.
  2. What is the speaker’s main purpose? Explain your answer.
The speaker’s main purpose is to inform the audience of the possibilities if animal testing is really stopped, and the alternatives to replace animal testing.
  3. How trustworthy is this video? Who is the speaker? What is the source? Do you think the source and the speaker are trustworthy?
I don’t know who’s the speaker because his face didn’t show throughout the video and he didn’t introduce himself. But because the video is uploaded from a trusted youtube channel, and the materials included valid information based on the research. So, I think the source is trustworthy.
  4. What the speaker’s attitude or tone towards the subject? Does he/she seem to agree or disagree with it? Explain your answer.
I’m not really sure because I think the speaker is in the middle, he didn’t agree with animal testing because it could harm the animal and also the result is sometimes not 100% accurate, but he also agrees that animal testing should still exist because there is still no great way to replace animal testing itself.
  5. Does the speaker put forward valid or strong arguments? How does he/she support the key points? Explain your answer.
Yes, he does. The speaker, not only stated his personal opinion but also provided data from previous research.
  6. Explain how this article will help contribute to your larger group project.
This video helped me broaden my horizons on what would happen if animal testing was truly stopped. If animal testing were to stop, there would probably be a slowdown in medical progress with the research. The solution if we want to stop animal testing is we need to advance in vitro technology. Animal testing may be considered harmful, but it has proven beneficial for some people.
