“Body Shaming”
This week article I think really helpful because here we can know the definition of body shaming and how to overcome this issue
What is being discussed in the video? Explain your answer.
We’ve all been compared to other people at some point and whether we want to admit it or not, we will always be compared to other people at any stage of our lives. Being compared to another person is just as destructive as comparing yourself to other people. In life, you will always encounter people who try to bring you down by criticizing your body figure but sometimes, it’s the voices inside our heads that are way scarier.
What is the speaker’s main purpose? Explain your answer.
We need to stop labeling ourselves and each other by comparative adjectives (who’s more has body goals, who’s more beautiful, etc). Body image is how you see yourself and your perception of your body. It does not matter who you are, what your size or skin color is, you are beautiful for being unapologetically yourself and for the body you have.
How trustworthy is this video? Who is the speaker? What is the source? Do you think the source and the speaker are trustworthy?
I think this video is quite trusting because the speaker is one of the Ignite professional speakers. Ignite (Ignite Talks) itself is a fast-paced geek event started in 2006 in Seattle, United States. Ignite’s mission is “Everyone Speaks”. They believe that public speaking builds confidence in individuals and that’s why they make this event. Their goal is to make it possible for anyone, anywhere, to learn to present their ideas and their stories.
The source gets by some research that had already been done before
Yes
What the speaker’s attitude or tone towards the subject? Does he/she seem to agree or disagree with it? Explain your answer.
She agrees to stop body shaming in our society, as we can see she really sounds very passionate when the topic is about victims of body shaming, how they feel, and the impact on them
Does the speaker put forward valid or strong arguments? How does he/she support the key points? Explain your answer.
Yes, to support the key point she mentions the impact of body shaming. Some people become stressed, and in the worst case, they can have suicide attempts

“Body Shaming in an Age of Social Media”
This article talks about the case of Dani Mathers who is charged with one misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy for taking a picture of a naked 70-year-old woman at her gym. In recent years, social media has taken body shaming to a new level in a negative way. A handful of companies and celebrities are working to change the narrative around what are acceptable standards of the female body, and it’s a small but growing group, according to advocates of women’s health.
What is being discussed in the video? Explain your answer.
Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” joked about obesity on his show, saying “Fat isn’t a birth defect” and “Nobody comes out of the womb needing to buy two seats on the airplane.” He advocated: “Fat-shaming doesn’t need to end, it needs to make a comeback.”. James Corden, host of The late late show with James Corden try to discuss this.
What is the speaker’s main purpose? Explain your answer.
The main purpose here is James Corden trying to explain that body shame is not a good thing, as he mentions. “We get it, we know. We know that being overweight is not good for us and people have struggled in their whole life trying to manage their weight. We suck, we had good days but we had bad months. Fat-shaming only does one thing, it makes people feel ashamed, and shame leads to depression, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior. Fat-shaming it’s just bullying, and bullying only makes the problem worse”
How trustworthy is this video? Who is the speaker? What is the source? Do you think the source and the speaker are trustworthy?
This speech can be trusted because James Corden has hosted the Late Late Show for about 6 years now, and this show itself has been around since 1995. So, I could say this show is quite capable and trustworthy.
James Corden itself is a British comic actor, writer, and television personality known for his likability and self-deprecating humor. He first garnered attention for his stage and TV roles and later became the host of The Late Late Show
The source here taken by Bill Maher speech about body shaming in his show
Yes
What the speaker’s attitude or tone towards the subject? Does he/she seem to agree or disagree with it? Explain your answer.
James Corden absolutely disagrees with Bill Maher in his show which talks about the normalization of body shaming in society. It is such a shame for someone who has a big platform and shares this kind of negativity and James Corden tries to convince that normally body-shaming is a kind of bad habit.
Does the speaker put forward valid or strong arguments? How does he/she support the key points? Explain your answer.
James put valid arguments by mentioning that a lot of people have the same struggle as him. He supports the key points by mention some people have struggled in their life only because they getting body shamed by others and in the worst case, it can have a negative impact on their life
